Do you remember... #1

I have these moments, well times really, when I tend to think about things from my childhood. Sometimes something will spark it, sometimes it will just pop into my head. They were talking on the radio about the 90’s, which was the basically my teen years, and asked what the big toy crazy was in I believe if was ’96. It was tickle me Elmo of course, but that wasn’t what I started thinking about. The dj said it was the first huge crazy for a toy that she could tihnk of. Then I thought of Cabbage Patch Dolls. I’m sure I heard or read about it being a huge fight for stock. They flew off shelves and people were going crazy trying to find them for their kids. I think had there been ebay back then people probably would have been selling them for stupid amounts of money just like they did with the Tickle Me Elmo.

Did you have a Cabbage Patch Doll? I remember having one (possibly two, but it’s not really clear in my memory). They came with adoption certificates. The one for mine should still be in my baby book at my mom’s house. Then I remembered her name. Heddy Edna. Yep. That was my Cabbage Patch Doll’s name. And that’s what I called her by (though it probably sounded all like one name when I said it). She had brown curly hair with straight pigtails. I don’t remember what her clothes looked like, but I loved her! I remember her having puffy little cheeks (plastic though they were) and her soft, squishy body. And, if I remember correctly, blue eyes.

I got mine when I was quite young, early-mid 80’s. I need to ask my mom if she still has it somewhere. I had so many stuffed animals that I have a feel many of them have been given away or just disappeared in one move or another, but I suddenly really want to have her. If for no other reason then nostalgia. Because lord knows I don’t need anymore useless items lying around this small apartment…

  1. Aww, I never had one! But man, I loved the 90’s. So many childhood memories. :3

  2. I had a mountain of cabbage patch dolls, my mum thought they were adorable and made sure I had a handful of them, at first she could only find original ones at garage sales etc but eventually they were in stores again and she bought me new ones, but yeah, I had a clothes-bucket full of them. I think they’re at home somewhere still, buried away under all my stuff until I’ve got my own kid to pass them onto.

How funny, nostalgia trips can be fun.

  5. I think Cabbage Patch was more 80s than 90s (well they came about in 80s) but I never had one. I had a few stuffed animals and I still sleep with one!
    I remember POGS. Ridiculous fad.
